Professor at the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities,
IIIT-Delhi. As a social scientist he has cross-disciplinary interests in theories of social
media, social networks and big data. His research themes concern the concomitant rise of
the new media technologies and populism and their implications for politics and
democracy, with a focus on contemporary India. He completed his PhD in Politics and
Public Policy (Contemporary India) from King's College London. Dr Khan holds an MA
from the AJK Mass Communication Research Center, Jamia Millia Islamia and completed
a second MA from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London. Dr Khan
has established a new research hub NewsLab to study digital journalism in India, and is
also collaborating with international partners on projects concerning the digitalisation and
its relation to welfare politics and civic activism
